Slow Pitch Softball Defeats Gainesville, 14-2

The East Jackson girls slow pitch softball team defeated Gainesville 14-2 last Thursday to open the spring season.

"Our team defense and offense both looked really strong," head coach Faith Grooms said. "I'm excited for this season of slow pitch as we continue to improve each day."

East Jackson jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Araya Underwood doubled to score Anna McKinney. Underwood scored when Tykeria Johnson singled. Kinley King tripled in the first inning to score more runs, followed by Ashlyn Tucker's single that drove in King.

East Jackson scored seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the third inning, when Makenzie Wilson, Ashley Rivera, Shaelyn Pyle, Avery Pulliam and McKinney all drove in runs on hits. McKinney pitched in the circle for the Eagles, allowing just two runs on seven hits in five innings of play. McKinney also struck out four batters. In the game, East Jackson totaled 18 hits.
