Cross Country Opens Season On Strong Note
The top-ranked East Jackson boys cross country team started the 2024 season with a strong showing at the North Georgia Two-Mile Stage Races held Saturday at East Jackson High School.
The event was held in three stages, with East Jackson participating in the first two stages of the morning. In Stage 1, senior Hayden Hodges finished third with a time of 10:35.12, the top finisher among any athlete in Classes A through AAAAA. Junior Colin Ramsey finished seventh with a time of 11:09.13, while Michael Kelleher finished 15th with a time of 11:40.85.
In Stage 2, freshman Cade Brown finished second with a time of 11:36.80, finishing just behind a junior from the much larger North Gwinnett High School. Ben Barnes (12:56.43) finished 17th and Christian Smith (13:32.58) finished 19th in the stage.
On the girls side, junior Courtney Cameron finished in fifth place with a time of 14:06.11, the best time of any Class AA athlete in competition. Norah Nichols finished 12th with a time of 15:36.25, while Tallulah Williams (16:13.36) finished 16th and Piper Pennington (16:33.19) finished 17th.
