Baseball Sweeps Johnson, Improves to 5-1
The East Jackson baseball team earned a pair of wins over Johnson this weekend, improving to 5-1 on the season. The Eagles won Game 1 Friday night 9-0 before posting a 20-1 romp on Saturday in Oakwood.
The Eagles tallied nine hits in the Game 1 win, Bryse Patterson tripled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, an error scored one run, Walker Mauldin hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Ian Geipel singled, scoring one run.
A single by Brady Saunders put East Jackson on the board in the bottom of the third.
Reed Cassidy earned the win for East Jackson. The hurler surrendered one hit and zero runs over five and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking two.
Mauldin led East Jackson with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. Mauldin went 1-f0r-2 on the day, while Nick Carpenter led two hits in four at bats. East Jackson had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.
In game 2, Patterson drove in six runs on four hits, including a home run to right field in the second inning to score three runs.
East Jackson Varsity Eagles got on the board in the top of the first inning after Patterson singled to center field, and Johnson committed an error, each scoring one run.
Four more East Jackson Varsity Eagles runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 6-0. Drew Richardson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Patterson homered to right field, scoring three runs.
East Jackson added to its early lead in the top of the third inning after Richardson singled to the left side of the infield, AJ Smith doubled down the right field line, and Hanseong Kang doubled down the left field line, each scoring two runs.
East Jackson scored eight runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. An error scored one run, Jonathan Wilson grounded out, scoring one run, Patterson singled, scoring two runs, Warren Hilley grounded out, scoring one run, Weston Mitchell doubled, scoring two runs, and Jayden Nunez singled, scoring one run.
Brooks Saunders earned the win for East Jackson. The hurler allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out seven and walking two.
East Jackson collected 17 hits in the game. Patterson and Brady Saunders each collected four hits for East Jackson. Nunez collected three hits in four at bats.
