Baseball Scores Five in Top of Seventh, Downs Stephens County

East Jackson scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 7-5 win against Region 8-AA foe Stephens County on Monday night. The Eagles are now 10-6 overall and will host Stephens County Wednesday and return to Stephens County for Game 3 of the series on Friday. 

East Jackson got onto the board in the top of the seventh inning when Brady Saunders and Drew Richardson scored on a Bryse Patterson single to right field to make the score 5-4. Patterson scored a few batters later on a Reed Cassidy single to third base to knot the game at 5-5. East Jackson took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Walker Mauldin to center field, scoring Nick Carpenter. The Eagles' final run of the inning came when Jayden Nunez scored on a passed ball. 

Carpenter finished the night 3 for 4 at the plate, while Nunez and Cassidy each went 2 for 4 at the plate. Patterson was 2 for 3 with 2 runs batted in and a pair of runs scored for the Eagles. 

On the hill, Weston Mitchell pitched the seventh inning to secure the win, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out one.
