Baseball Downs Providence, Eyes 2 Seed
Drew Richardson drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting the East Jackson baseball team to a 3-2 win over Providence Christian Academy on Tuesday night. The two teams will meet for a doubleheader on Friday in a matchup with heavy playoff seeding implications.
With the win on Tuesday, East Jackson secured the most wins in school history (14) and the program's first-ever winning season. The Eagles enter Friday's doubleheader needing to win both games to earn the second seed out of Region 8-AA. With one win, or one Athens Academy loss, the Eagles will secure at least the No. 3 seed in state playoffs, just the Eagles' second appearance ever.
On Tuesday, Richardson was 3 for 4 at the plate , driving in the winning run. On the mound, Aiden Holley pitched seven innings, striking out nine batters, allowing just one earned run on four hits. Tyler Bennett earned the win, pitching the eighth inning. He did not allow a hit and struck out one batter.
