Baseball Downs Fellowship Christian, 13-2
The East Jackson baseball team used strong offensive and pitching performances to down Fellowship Christian 13-2 on Tuesday night. The Eagles racked up 14 hits and surrendered just two to earn their second straight region win and improve their record to 8-8 on the season.
Senior Payton Garner had three walks on the night, but managed two hits that included a solo home run to right field to start the scoring in the top of the third inning. The Eagles added three runs in the fifth, six runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to blow the game open.
Garner finished with two runs batted in, while senior Ty Bennett finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Junior Hanseong Kang drove in a run and scored two. Sophomore Walker Mauldin was 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs batted in. Bryse Patterson and Aidan Holley also drove in runs for the Eagles.
On the mound, Holley tossed a complete game, his best performance of the season. Holley allowed just those two hits on the season. Both Fellowship Christian runs were unearned.
The two teams conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader on Friday at East Jackson. Games start at 5 and 7:30 p.m.
