Baseball Defeats Union County, Eyes Playoff Berth
The East Jackson varsity baseball team defeated Union County 7-5 on Monday night, putting the Eagles one win away from clinching the second playoff berth in school history. The Eagles visit Union County on Friday in a doubleheader.
In the win over Union County on Monday, the Eagles jumped out to a 7-1 lead through five innings and withheld a strong late-inning surge by Union County. The Eagles racked up 12 hits, with six Eagle batters recorded multiple hits on the night. Ty Bennett and Nicholas Carpenter each recorded multiple hits and drove in two runs on the night, while Payton Garner, Bryse Patterson and Aidan Holley also finished with two hits on the night. Garner, Patterson and Hanseaong Kang also drove in a run on the night.
On the mound, Holley earned the win by pitching six innings and allowing just two earned runs and striking out eight batters. Bennett earned the save with one inning of work and allowing one earned run while striking out one.
