Alicia Walker has been named the head girls soccer coach at East Jackson Comprehensive High School, the school announced on Wednesday. Walker will take over a program that earned the school’s first-ever state playoff win this past season.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Walker to East Jackson High School,” Principal Dr. Matt Stratemeyer said. “We believe Coach Walker shares the values we want to instill in our student-athletes and will deliver high-performing results both on and off the field. We are appreciative of the commitment Coach Gallman and her staff showed to the program these past several years.”
Walker is an elementary teacher at South Jackson Elementary School and has been around the game of soccer most of her life. Walker stated that when the position came open she felt the timing was right for her.
“When I was asked to consider coaching the East girl's soccer, I felt like God called me there immediately. There wasn't any bit of hesitation. It felt right from the start,” Walker said. “It is my passion to coach, and I can't wait to share my passion with these girls and help them learn the beauty of being on a team.”
Walker said her focus for the Lady Eagles program will be to build a sense of family among the program that will carry the players past graduation.
“I want to help them grow as an individual and not just a soccer player. Being a coach is more than just coaching a sport, it is being a person for these kids to look up to and learn from,” Walker said. “It is helping them unlock their full potential in more than just soccer. Some of the memories that affect me the most are from the coaches that I had growing up.”

Walker said she has been playing soccer since she was three years old and began playing in high school as a student at Winder-Barrow, where she earned the Coach’s Award as a sophomore. Walker attended Georgia Gwinnett College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology before completing the GaTAPP program to become a certified educator in elementary and special education. Walker has been employed at South Jackson for the past five years.
Walker’s coaching experience includes serving as the head coach of the East Jackson Middle School soccer team this past season, along with coaching club and recreational soccer.
Walker and her husband, Sebastian, have five children — Hazel (14), Skarrlette (11), Audriana (11), Koda (9) and Silas (6).
