East Jackson moved into second place in Region 8-AA following a three-game sweep of Fellowship Christian this week. The Eagles won Game 1 of the series 13-2 at Fellowship before sweeping a doubleheader at home on Thursday, 7-5 and 10-6.
In Game 1, the Eagles racked up 14 hits and surrendered just two hits. Senior Payton Garner had three walks on the night, but managed two hits that included a solo home run to right field to start the scoring in the top of the third inning. The Eagles added three runs in the fifth, six runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to blow the game open.
Garner finished with two runs batted in, while senior Ty Bennett finished 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Junior Hanseong Kang drove in a run and scored two. Sophomore Walker Mauldin was 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs batted in. Bryse Patterson and Aidan Holley also drove in runs for the Eagles.
On the mound, Holley tossed a complete game, his best performance of the season. Holley allowed just those two hits on the season. Both Fellowship Christian runs were unearned.
In Game 2, the Eagles overcame six errors in the game and an early 2-0 deficit to earn the win. The Eagles scored three runs in the third, two in the fifth and two more in the sixth, the final two breaking open a 5-5 tie. Kang threw five innings and allowed just one earned run on just five hits, while Garrett Waugh started Game 3 and pitched six innings allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts.
In Game 3, East Jackson jumped out to a commanding 6-1 lead after two innings and added three more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to hold a 10-1 lead. Fellowship Christian made a strong run in the top of the seventh inning, scoring five runs. Ultimately, though, strong pitching by junior Reed Cassidy shut down the Fellowship surge and secured the series sweep for the Eagles. Cassidy pitched 0.2 innings, striking out one and allowing no hits.
Patterson had the heavy bat in the doubleheader, driving in five runs and scoring one run. Kang scored two runs in home games, when Bennett scored three runs in the doubleheader to go along with his two runs in Game 1.
